DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
Our goal: To train professionals with high theoretical knowledge of geological sciences who are capable to contribute and solve the problems of geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, environmental geology, mineral exploration, engineering geology, geotechnics and as well as to possess advanced scientific research methods and technologies with high ethic and civility.
Staff: The Department of Geology and Hydrogeology operates with a total of 29 employees including faculties and staff. Of this:
- Doctor (PhD), Professor - 3
- Doctor (PhD), Associate professor - 5
- Doctor (PhD) - 12
- Masters (MSc) – 9
Training: Our department offers Bachelor’s (BSc) and Master’s (MSc) degree programs in Geology, Mineral exploration, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Engineering geology and geotechnics, and Environmental geology as well as Doctoral (PhD) programs in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology and Environmental geology.
Geology: Geology is a science that studies the Earth, the materials that make up the Earth, and the structure, formation and formation processes of these materials. The main scope of geology is to train professionals who are capable of working at the international level with the skills to work with geological mapping, mineral exploration, scientific research and practical application. Within the field of geology, we offer specialized training in geological mapping, the study of fossilized floras and faunas (paleontology) and ,the study of minerals and rocks (mineralogy and petrography).
Graduates will obtain the following skills:
|
Mineral exploration: We will train professionals in industrial geological exploration who have high theoretical knowledge of the structure and formation conditions of mineral deposits, their distribution and location patterns using advanced research methods with modern techniques and technologies.
Graduates will obtain the following skills:
|
Geophysics: Modern geophysical methods are widely used in the study of the Earth's internal structure, minerals exploration, engineering geology, archeology and hydrogeology. The geophysicists will decide the important scientific and practical goals that will determine the future development of Mongolia.
Graduates will obtain the following skills:
|
Hydrogeology: A hydrogeological engineer develops theory and methods related to groundwater monitoring and analysis, conducts all stages of hydrogeological exploration, hydrogeological mapping, selects the design of the drainage system and ensures the safety of mine dewater, groundwater composition and quality and its formation and distribution patterns, groundwater pollution, protection and recovery.
Graduates will obtain the following skills:
|
Engineering geology and geotechnics: The engineering geology studies the geological and geotechnical conditions to select suitable sites for the construction of all types of engineering structures and to ensure its normal use.
Graduates are expected to obtain the following skills:
|
