Petroleum and drilling engineering
DEPARTMENT OF PETROLEUM AND DRILLING ENGINEERING
Our mission:
Our engineering programs ensure all students have a strong foundation of math, physics, chemistry, geology, and the engineering sciences. From there, you will learn about the differences in drilling fluids, fluid behavior, geological formations, planning and building oil wells, risk analysis, and reservoir engineering.
We emphasize lifelong learning, teamwork, critical thinking, innovation, and global/society impact of our work. Our group projects, especially with the added interactions with industry mentors, will give you near-real-world experience in work place dynamics. Different courses also require written and oral communication skills, so you're prepared for future challenges.
Our curriculum is proven to be the best preparation for working in the oil and gas industry — because of it, our students have a 100 percent job placement rate after graduation. Industry professionals regularly contribute to the program as mentors and project advisors, so you can create those connections even before you enter the job market.
Our Petroleum Engineering Department members have a high interest and enthusiasm that places undergraduate-level teaching as the highest priority among their responsibilities. They hold diverse and fairly balanced industrial and academic experiences, and have different areas of expertise.
Primary outline of research:
To develope the advanced technical and technological innovation research to support environmental, social and economic development in the production, processing, supply and consumption of conventional and unconventional oil and gas and their products.
Introduction:
Our department commenced preparing drilling engineers domestically since 1979, and petroleum engineering professionals since 1991. Since the first admission, 60 graduations in the field of drilling have been completed and 473 people have been trained as drilling engineers and 167 graduations in the field of petroleum have been completed and over 1300 people have been trained as petroleum engineers. Since 2005, a total of 108 specialists have been trained in the "Gas Engineering" ("Gas transmission and supply") specialty and a total of 61 specialists in the "Oil Refinery Engineering" ("Oil Processing Engineering") specialty since 1997. It can be seen from this that over the past 28 years, more than 2,000 engineers with higher education have been trained in our department. Totally, over 2000 engineers have been prepared at the Petroleum and Drilling Engineering Department for 28 years.
Currently, there are 10 people, 5 of them whom received PhD degree, working in the department, 7 lecturers and 3 employees, and there is a teaching laboratory, 4 classrooms, and 1 field practice ground.
Currently, the department is conducting bachelor's programs in "Petroleum Engineering", "Gas Engineering", "Oil Refinery Engineering", "Drilling Engineering", and "Petroleum Engineering", "Drilling Engineering", "Gas Engineering" programs for research, professional master's and doctorate courses, respectively.
