The Department of Mining Technology was established in 1971. Since its founding the Department of Mining Technology has developed into the nation’s top mining engineering program. The department offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. For postgraduates, we offer focused research programs. In addition, the department offers joint bachelor's degree programs 2+2 and 3+2 with foreign universities. A large number of research papers have been published in national and international journals.
The department, undergraduate and graduate programs expose students to an extensive range of studies that comprise “Mining Engineering”, Mining Geotechnics“, “Mining Management”, and “Mine Surveying. The department’s programs have one of the highest job placement rates at the university.
The department has considerable industrial interaction with all the major mining establishments in Mongolia. The Department of Mining Technology always organizes an annual conference for students and researchers, scientists. Students of our program have numerous opportunities after graduation to work at the engineering and management level in the field of mining engineering, and international mining projects.
Our programs aim to equip the students with the knowledge and skills required to perform the various functions typically exercised by mining engineers: manage international and local mining projects, plan, design, operate, and close mines, and implement health and safety operations.
All programs have been accredited by the National Accreditation Committee. All the equipment and appliances are up to date and occupational safety standards are sustained at all times. To strengthen the potential of the laboratory, the laboratories are annually updated at the expense of investments from the school and the partner company. The Department of mining technology now has equipped research centers and laboratories in the following areas:
- Center of ecology and sustainable development
- Mining research center
- Rock Mechanics and Physics, Fragmentation Laboratory
- Mine Geotechnical Laboratory
- Mine Geotechnical Education and Research Laboratory
- Computer laboratories
A successful career in mining engineering requires a strong background in mathematics, computer applications, economics, communication skills, and the physical sciences, particularly geology, physics, and chemistry. Highly trained engineers and scientists are needed by the mining industry now and in the future.
